It is thought the eruption triggered an undersea earthquake which led to the tsunami:
@Lookner "Admitted, there was a tsunami that hit the coast of the Sunda Strait. The cause of the tsunami is not an earthquake. But the possibility of an underwater landslide influences the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. Along with the tidal wave due to the full moon." https://t.co/jdfiwmnkQY

Scientists are monitoring the volcano and the risk of more eruptions/earthquakes/tsunamis is high:

A warning from Rahmat Riyono, the head of BMKG. Another tsunami is possible because Saturday night's wave was caused by an eruption of the Anak-Krakatau volcano, rather than an earthquake.
"We urge people to stay away from Anak-Krakatau and the beach."— James Massola (@jamesmassola) December 23, 2018
Editor’s note: We’ve corrected a typo. Krakatoa erupted in 1883, not 1983.
