It wasn't just the media that moved on quickly from that news cycle—conservatives did too. We just said "welp, he was crazy" and moved on.

Hopefully we can get to a point where neither side blames political speech for attacks such as these:
The Left blames Trump for Cesar Sayoc, but doesn't blame Bernie Sanders for James Hodgkinson, who shot/tried to kill members of congress and almost killed Steve Scalise.
Both guys are bad, but neither Trump nor Sanders are responsible for either of them.

As for the president, he did refer to the bomb scare as terrorism at his rally tonight:
Trump referred to the mail bombs sent to Dems as terrorism.
"As you know, the suspect has been captured–great job–and is now in federal custody," he said at the North Carolina rally.
"These terrorist actions must be prosecuted and punished to the full extent of the law."

And he also called out the media for using Sayoc’s actions to tar-and-feather all of his supporters:
