Target removes 'sexist' Batgirl T-shirt

Apparently some people in Australia thought this adorable T-shirt listing Batgirl’s “To Do List” was sexist and forced Target to pull it off the shelves:

One woman from Melbourne posted a rant on Target’s Facebook page, asking the retailer to explain “what message are you intending on sending to young girls?”:

“Target, can you explain why you are selling something as offensive as this in your stores currently? What message are you intending on sending to young girls? I’m insulted that you present a future where our daughters need to complete their ‘home duties’ before they can go out and save the world. We know that working mothers still do more housework than their spouses, we don’t need you to perpetuate this inequity.”

First of all, Batman has a freaking butler so it’s nice to see the next generation of superheroes learn the value of hard work like washing the car yourself. And secondly, isn’t the shirt’s meaning clear? The message is that young girls can kick butt and literally “save the world.”

Now are you ready for the best part? The boy’s version of the shirt only says “Yes my dad’s Batman,” which means the girl’s version is actually more empowering:

Hopefully Target starts selling this girl’s shirt in America where it’s sure to be a bestseller.
