For the past couple of days, we’ve been treated to speeches from both President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on the national security implications of manmade global warming caused primarily from the burning of carbon intensive fossil fuels.
For example, here’s President Obama in a commencement address at the United States Coast Guard Academy:

Which makes these tweets from Ambassador Susan Rice out of place as she recognizes just how important increasing carbon emissions from fossil fuels is to reducing conflict and instability in South Sudan:
Deeply concerned by spread of violence in S. Sudan’s Unity State & Upper Nile. We join China, Japan & European partners in condemning it.

Long-term consequences of violence are profound. Damage to oil infrastructure will impair S. Sudan’s ability to rebuild itself.

S. Sudan’s leaders must prioritize wellbeing of people and future of their young country. If unwilling or unable, they should step aside.

In other words, South Sudan needs to rebuild its oil infrastructure and thus make global warming worse.
Which is what we’ve been saying all along.
