There was widespread speculation earlier this week that the reliably liberal writer and director Joss Whedon deleted his Twitter account after angry feminists complained about the treatment of the only female Avenger, “Black Widow,” in his latest film.
But that speculation was wrong. Turns out that Whedon just needed some “quiet” time:
Joss Whedon spoke to me about why he left Twitter, and it wasn't feminists, or death threats: http://t.co/QsmwrAAh5G pic.twitter.com/7KUCVhFsHB

No, Joss Whedon did not leave Twitter because of feminists. http://t.co/MauiuCdX8c cc @pattonoswalt pic.twitter.com/3fnGQei9WA

Note: It was Whedon who called his critics “militant feminists” and “social justice warriors.” HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Fox News’ Andy Levy, for one, called it correctly from the start:

Exit question: This has to be quite embarrassing for feminists, no? Whedon is simultaneously mocking his critics and signaling that he won’t change.
