Underreported news: 'Calm' protests mask ongoing gun violence in Baltimore; 13 dead since Gray's arrest

“Good morning”? Depends on what part of the paper you turn to first.

For example, the front page of today’s Baltimore Sun screams “calm”:

Oh, really? What about all the shootings around the city since the protests started?

Probably.

Here’s the Baltimore Sun’s crime reporter Justin Fenton on the uptick in violence. A story which didn’t make the front page, of course:

Away from protests, Baltimore gun violence continues

With Baltimoreans resuming peaceful protests, gun violence away from the media spotlight and National Guard deployments picked up.

Four people were shot Tuesday night, and five more Wednesday. At least two were fatal.

And:

Since April 12, when Gray was arrested, at least 13 people have been killed and, so far this year, homicides are up 25 percent.

Where are the protests for these 13 people?
