Now that police have finished their #FreddieGray investigation, let’s meet the prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby

Justin Fenton of the Baltimore Sun reports:

An excerpt:

State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby will ultimately determine whether charges will be brought against any of the six suspended officers, and she has not set a timetable for that decision.

Police said Wednesday that no additional information would be released at the conclusion of their investigation. “By turning these documents, our findings over to the state’s attorney’s office as quickly as we can, we are being accountable to them so that we can be accountable to the public,” spokesman Capt. Eric Kowalczyk told reporters.

And who is State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby? She has only been on the job for 100 days, is married to a Baltimore city councilman and comes from a police family.

From the WSJ:

Barely 100 days into her tenure as the city’s chief prosecutor, State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby will soon face a momentous decision: whether to pursue criminal charges against any Baltimore police officers in the high-profile death of Freddie Gray.

The case thrusts Ms. Mosby, a 35-year-old former insurance company lawyer who had never before held elected office, into the center of a national maelstrom over race relations and police practices.

And:

Ms. Mosby, who grew up in Boston, has said her dedication to public safety is informed by personal experience. She is the daughter and granddaughter of police officers, and she witnessed the murder of a close family member in front of her house.

Welcome to the big leagues.
