Nevada Dem Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto is out with a new ad claiming her opponent in the upcoming U.S. Senate race, Republican Adam Laxalt, “has been on the side of Big Oil for years” and “that’s why they bankrolled groups that spent millions to elect him governor”:

With President Joe Biden on the way to Saudi Arabia to beg for more oil, we’re not sure this is the dunk she thinks it is. Maybe Nevada voters want someone with ties to U.S. Big Oil?
@JoeBiden could #UnleashAmericanEnergy strengthening our national security while lowering #GasPrices however he'll once again rely on #SaudiArabia to relieve the pain at the pump. Why does @POTUS keep putting America last?

And she’s hoping voters aren’t smart enough to see through her BS. Her problem? Voters *are* smart enough and they know EVs aren’t the answer:
Didn’t you just spend the last year trying to help rich people buy electric cars with build back better when your own constituents can’t afford gas and groceries?

Nevada Dems are really leaning into this attack, however:
.@AdamLaxalt claims that @CortezMasto wants to make 🇺🇸dependent on foreign oil.
FALSE. Sen. Cortez Masto has been a relentless champion for clean energy independence — while Laxalt's campaign is funded by the oil companies raising your gas prices. pic.twitter.com/1ZCGtojMsa

But is there any evidence anyone but the most partisan of Dems believe it?
very smart #nvsen ad from @CortezMasto starting the general election on offense. NV voters aren't going to like a loser politician who's in the pocket of the same big oil companies ripping them off at the pump https://t.co/9LmBJdT28F

FWIW, a poll in late march by NewsNation of 1086 registered voters found only 4.75% of respondents blamed Republicans in Congress for the higher oil prices while 33.03% blamed President Biden and 21.47% blamed oil companies:
