Welp.
President Joe Biden said in an interview with CBS’ Norah O’Donnell that he’s going to try to get a $15 per hour minimum wage into the Covid-relief bill but he doesn’t think “it’s going to survive”:
Biden tells CBS he thinks he may have to drop $15 minimum wage hike because it will violate Senate rules on reconciliation. “I don't think it's going to survive.”

Well, duh:
I called this from the moment he proposed it.

Too bad they didn’t tell Dem voters this:
Like, we all knew this was meant to be a signal to labor and other allies that they were a big priority, but we also knew it would almost inevitably fall away from this package absent some unforeseen political will. They just forgot to tell the voters that.

The president wants a stand-alone bill:
Pres. Biden tells CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell “his guess is” the $15 federal minimum wage proposal will not be included in a final COVID-relief bill:
“I do think that we should have a minimum wage stand by itself, and work your way up to the $15.”

Bernie Sander, however, still thinks it can be done during reconciliation:
The budget resolution the Senate passed today puts us on a path to finally raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. It is a moral imperative in the richest country in the world that no one is forced to live on a starvation wage, and the American Rescue Plan will get it done.

Or maybe President Biden will pull a rabbit out of his hat?
This is also a Bidenism. He’ll set the expectation that he may be unable to do something and then folks will find a way to make it happen. https://t.co/C23v05wLzM

Good luck with that:

Other Dems are pushing for an end of the filibuster over it, which won’t happen either:
Been saying this for a bit now, but reconciliation is a stopgap. Ultimately, If Democrats want to pass the popular policies Biden campaigned on – and which will boost both him and Congressional Dems in the 2022 midterms – they have to reform or eliminate the Jim Crow filibuster. https://t.co/OglPg8Kujt

This isn’t true. In Florida, a very red state, voters just passed a phased-in $15 minimum wage that indexes to inflation after 2026:

What a concept! Letting voters at the state level decide? It’s madness.
