The lost their cult leader:

The veneration of Mueller into a religious-like Saviour who was going to bring Democrats salvation without having to do politics was always deeply unhealthy.
It became a cult.

For awhile, Dem leaders dealt with this flock anger by pretending Mueller gave them what they were promised.

But that was a lie too blatant to sustain.
