The Washington Post issued an official correction after falsely claiming that Native American activist Nathan Phillips fought in the Vietnam War:

Now that it’s official, your move Sen. Elizabeth Warren:
Omaha elder and Vietnam War veteran Nathan Phillips endured hateful taunts with dignity and strength, then urged us all to do better.
Listen to his words: https://t.co/ymHRxVA91K

And Kirsten Powers:
2) Nathan Phillips says they chanted "build that wall." It's not clear from video what they are chanting so it can't be proven they weren't, tho they say they didn't. Amazing how many people automatically take the word of high school boys over a Vietnam vet and elder.

And Soledad O’Brien:
Goals 2019. Still singing my song and pounding on my drum, regardless of who’s doing what in front of me. Steadfast in the face of intimidation—and still going calmly about my way. Thank you Nathan Phillips, Omaha elder and Vietnam Vet, for the inspiration.

And Andrew Gillum:
It only seems appropriate to honor Vietnam War Veteran, NATIVE American and Omaha elder, Nathan Phillips, over those who spew hatred and ignorance. pic.twitter.com/qG2sIJTRR7

And on…
The Native American elder that MAGA racists mocked is Vietnam veteran Nathan Phillips. He holds a regular ceremony for Native American veterans buried at Arlington.
So the racists who claim kneeling dishonors Vets—just dishonored a Veteran to his face?https://t.co/Mdb3Ng6Dho

And on and on and on and on:
VIDEO: Outrage as non-Native youth wearing #MAGA hats taunt and disrespect Native elder
The Native man is Nathan Phillips, an Omaha keeper of a sacred pipe and a Vietnam Veteran. https://t.co/fWrm0wjmNP

Nathan Phillips, a Vietnam veteran, stood dignified and unbowed in the literal face of white aggression. As expected. The MAGA hats make it easier to see, but this is older than Trump and his flock. It isn’t “kids being kids.” It is America being America. pic.twitter.com/udHYot6EGZ

A group of teens wearing "MAGA" hats surrounded Nathan Phillips — an Omaha Nation elder and Vietnam War veteran — mocking and harassing him as he sang the American Indian Movement song on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. https://t.co/BOUNPd3F47 pic.twitter.com/8s0HUjeKl6

This is happening in 2019. Appalled & enraged doesn’t BEGIN to cover it. These young men r part of an allegedly spiritual group, #CovingtonCatholic school. Where are their teachers, their elders? I give elder #NathanPhillips, a Vietnam Vet & Omaha elder, my respect & gratitude. https://t.co/0Duz1T18F6

The man who the kids in MAGA hats jeered at on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial? His name is Nathan Phillips. He’s a Vietnam Veteran who holds an annual ceremony honoring Native American veterans in Arlington National Cemetery. https://t.co/o9iFQH4KCy
