We told you over the weekend about how celebrity socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went after National Journal’s Josh Kraushaar after he called her a media scold. ICYMI, here’s the tweet again that set both parties off:
Or: maybe having powerful editorial positions awash in people from one race, class, or gender isn’t a good idea; since we get 1000% more takes on “brown lady says a curse word” than an actual white supremacist in Congress.
If you won’t look the mirror, people will do it for you. https://t.co/P0PVfsTE4t

But, SURPRISE! Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t 100% correct when she dissed on CBS’s “one race, class, or gender” journo hiring. Here’s the fact check from Kraushaar in this response to journo Kara Swisher noting that “4/7 of the embeds on the team are non-white”:
That’s not what @AOC said @HotlineJosh. Not clear why you can’t just admit she has a point that media needs more diverse staffing. We have this issue in tech media and I can tell you — as hard as we try — we definitely come up short. Pretending it’s not an issue seems obtuse. https://t.co/mxhsoPIRmh

Kara —
AOC’s original pt was specifically about CBS’ 2020 team of political embeds — not the media writ large. 4/7 of the embeds on the team are non-white.
I noted that despite her tsk-tsking, it was a diverse bunch — unless you expect strict quotas for every hiring group.

That’s the reference point to quotas // it’s a little ridiculous for a member of Congress to attack a company’s diverse set of hires simply because someone from a certain race/ethnicity isn’t hired.
If there was a broader issue (at CBS or elsewhere), that’s a different story.

Over to you, congresswoman.
