Breaking news out of D.C. tonight where court documents show that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is recommending a prison sentence up to 6 months for former Trump campaign volunteer George Papadopoulos:

Mueller is arguing incarceration is “appropriate and warranted”:

Papadopoulos had previously pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators:

In today’s filing, Muller argued that Papadopoulos’ lies “undermined investigators”:
“The defendant’s lies undermined investigators’ ability to challenge the Professor or potentially detain or arrest him while he was still in the United States,” prosecutors wrote. “The defendant’s false statements were intended to harm the investigation, and did so.”

And that Papadopoulos hampered attempts to interview a key witness:
“The defendant’s lies undermined investigators’ ability to challenge the Professor or potentially detain or arrest him while he was still in the United States.” This is the professor who promised Papadopoulos dirt on Clinton. And it doesn’t sound like Mueller was very happy with Papadopoulos’ assistance:
