During a press availability where President Donald Trump said he would sign something to end family separation at the border, he also made news by cancelling tomorrow’s White House congressional picnic:
“We are going to cancel and postpone tomorrow’s Congressional picnic… I was just walking over to the oval office and I said, 'it doesn't feel right to have a picnic for Congress when we're working on doing something very important,'” @POTUS says while addressing immigration pic.twitter.com/ieAtqMZ2fA

OK, but shouldn’t someone have alerted the White House cooks? They’re already grilling steaks for tomorrow:
ALSO — Trump says he's canceling the congressional picnic, set for tomorrow, for which WH cooks have been preparing steaks all day…
"It just didn't feel right to me," he said, per @abbydphillip

A lot of steaks:
They are grilling up some massive steaks here at the White House today – I could smell these all the way out on Pennsylvania Avenue. pic.twitter.com/mAbPageWp0

The cooks actually found out about the cancellation from the media while they were cooking:
The president’s full of surprises. He made an announcement about family separations – and postponed the congressional picnic. When I told a cook the news, he looked in dismay at dozens of rib-eye steaks he’d spent the morning grilling and said: “What’ll they do with all this?” pic.twitter.com/Nzz0d0jZtk

Oh, and there are also hundreds of families who will be inconvenienced now, from both parties:
This is unbelievable.
The Capitol is filled with wives, husbands and kids, who have flown into town because they were invited to go to the White House. This is a highlight of many congressional families’ summers. https://t.co/FvNz2YjGqf

Maybe Paul Ryan will get the steaks?
JUST IN — Paul Ryan and about two dozen lawmakers are headed to White House to meet with Trump on immigration.

But it’s wishful thinking that the media will get them:
He'll toss the steaks to reporters. https://t.co/IiYpPOH1H1
