A video of New York City sanitation workers allegedly throwing away perfectly good boxes of fruit and vegetables over a reported code violation has gone viral after getting posted to Facebook.

Gary Schlesinger of Brooklyn uploaded the video yesterday and wrote, “NYC cracking down on fruit stores that put out merchandise more then 4 feet from store.” Toward the end of the video, you can see a police officer instructing the sanitation workers on what boxes need to go.

Here’s the entire video. What the heck are they thinking?

What a waste!

Why not collect the food, you know, and feed hungry people? It is one of Mayor de Blasio’s initiatives after all.

It seems not so long ago we heard a lot about New York values. Is this what defenders were talking about? Hopefully not.
