Why did Iran take away the U.S. sailors' boots? Why's the female sailor in a head scarf? [photos]

Take a closer look at the photo of the 10 U.S. sailors while in custody in Iran. None of them are wearing boots:

And the female sailor is in a head scarf of some sort:

Defense Secretary Ash Carter released a statement where he said he appreciates “the timely way in which this situation was resolved.” If only we could feel the same way after seeing how Iran treated our members of the military:
