Politico’s Glenn Thrush tweeted this out a few minutes ago, which we must admit sounds incredibly strange:
!! @tedcruz proposed a method to detect" infidelity, in which God should “give women a hymen that grows back every time she has intercourse"
— Glenn Thrush (@GlennThrush) April 22, 2015
What Thrush didn’t do, however, was provide any context. The quote is from today’s New York Times article on Ted Cruz’s days as a debater at Princeton.
And it’s clearly stated that his idea to “give women a hymen that grows back” was an attempt “at humor” during a debate:
But the damage was already done with Thrush’s readers jumping on the crazy-bandwagon and thinking Cruz was serious:
@GlennThrush @LOLGOP @tedcruz how about a man's weenie shrinking 1/4" every time he commits infidelity

@GlennThrush wait what

@GlennThrush @LOLGOP @tedcruz And what is his test for male infidelity?
— Sean McCabe (@darthstar99) April 22, 2015
@GlennThrush @tedcruz @LOLGOP And then what? The National Hymen Inspection Agency?

Sounds like something his Dad would say…

But rather than correct his tweet, Thrush doubled down:
Context matters, people.
