A Courier Journal opinion piece declared that Holocaust Remembrance Day is a time to remember other stuff than the Holocaust.
No, it’s really, quite literally, not.
According to the UN Resolution establishing January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day:
‘ … the Holocaust, which resulted in the murder of one third of the Jewish people, along with countless members of other minorities, will forever be a warning to all people of the dangers of hatred, bigotry, racism and prejudice … Resolves that the United Nations will designate 27 January as an annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust … ‘
Holocaust Remembrance Day is entirely about the murder of six million Jews at the hands of Hitler’s Nazis during World War II – what we all call ‘The Holocaust’.
Holocaust Remembrance Day is a time to remember more than one atrocity https://t.co/nT1OyoVpl7

Clearly, the point of remembering is to honor those who were murdered and to prevent such a horrific event from ever happening again, but the day is reserved to remember a unique historical event.
Noam Blum picked up on the Courier Journal piece and let them have it.
Brain addled progressives cannot ever condemn antisemitism without burying it in a mountain of general identity grievance. https://t.co/j8olEpLUXt pic.twitter.com/tgQ64U8JVr

Take a gander at that pull quote. Nobody has ever claimed Jews have a monopoly on persecution and atrocities. Jews have never claimed that violence towards them is more important than violence against others.

It is undeniable, however, that Jews do have a unique history as targets of hate and violence.
These first couple sentences are virtually indistinguishable from some of the swill you might see surface from the gutters where actual neo-Nazis live.
This reads like Nancy Pelosi’s condemnation of Ilhan Omar’s antisemitism, which eventually was mutated by her conference into this: pic.twitter.com/HlroFam8Jq

Even Nancy didn’t go so far as to imply the Jews ‘claim that the hate and violence towards them is more important than another’s’.
The Courier Journal made sure to use their Holocaust Remembrance Day dumpster fire of an article to add a ‘Republicans are Nazis’ swipe as well:
‘Hitler was just one of many dictators. The list of tyrants, past and present, continues with the addition of names from around the globe today. These autocrats masquerade as religious leaders or elected officials, grandstanding with worthless “facts” and “solutions” to non-existent problems, like teaching about race in schools and banning books.’
Shameless.
I don't care how Jewish you are, writing something like "what's so special about the Holocaust?" is going to make me wonder whether or not you actually believe the historical truth of it or maybe this is your way of "just asking questions."
— Noam Blum (@neontaster) January 28, 2023
At least one of the authors is Jewish, and yes, that doesn’t change the absurdity of the article in any way.

LOL.
"Hitler was just one of many dictators."
Ah.
— Casey Mattox (@CaseyMattox_) January 28, 2023
Yes, that’s an actual quote from the article.
Yes, Hitler was one of many dictators, but not ‘just one’. There’s a reason Democrats eventually call every Republican who becomes a political threat ‘Hitler’, and it’s not because he was ‘just one of many dictators’.

Perfect use of the Frog of Shame.
No, Holocaust Remembrance Day is a day to remember the Holocaust. They even called it "Holocaust Remembrance Day" to make this easy to understand.

Why are words so darn hard for leftists to grok?

Don’t mind if we do …

Right? You gotta watch out for those racist Southerners with their y’alls and ma’ams and bless-your-hearts. Oh, wait, this is coming from liberal journalists. Style points for well-done sarcasm.
Guys, we really need to make Holocaust Remembrance Day more inclusive. https://t.co/fBmUy9fsA4

Ha! We’re pretty sure abortion is the only thing remaining the Left holds sacred.
“Jews do not have a monopoly on persecution and atrocities.”
Five people got together and decided this was the important lesson to deliver on…Holocaust Remembrance Day. https://t.co/wlS8G94958

The much-deserved ratio is gaining steam. Let’s hope it continues.
Well done, you magnificent clowns at the Courier Journal. Well done.
How about you courier your entire publication to a dumpster.

Now there’s a suggestion we can get behind.
