Tristan ‘I am a lawyer’ Snell received a proper Twitter dragging after claiming that NYT reporter, Maggie Haberman, ‘appears’ to have committed a felony.
We’re not lawyers. To us, ‘misprision’ sounds like a private male medical condition you hear about on late-night TV commercials.
To Twitter users who actually understand the law, Snell’s understanding of ‘misprision’ is absurd.
I’m not a journalist, so I can’t say whether Maggie Haberman is doing her job appropriately.
I am a lawyer, though, so I can say her failure to report Trump’s felonies upon discovering them — saving them for her book instead — appears to be misprision, which is itself a felony.
— Tristan Snell (@TristanSnell) September 27, 2022
Why does the Left have the long knives out for Maggie Haberman? Here’s the background.
The biggest NYT scandal of our lifetime – far worse than Judith Miller and Jayson Blair. Their reporter knew a year ago, and covered it up for a payday. Blame the paper. It's the publisher's disgraceful policy to allow this perfidy. pic.twitter.com/wYhpsq2py5
— Tom Watson (@tomwatson) September 27, 2022
They’re claiming Haberman knew Trump illegally possessed government documents a year ago and failed to report the ‘crime’. Anyone who gets in the way of the Left’s ‘walls are closing’ scoop du jour is going to get savaged. Them’s the rules.
Snell’s ploy paid off with many among the rank-and-file blue wave emoji crowd. We’ll spare you their swooning at the thought of dragging Haberman off in chains to the hoosegow.
Lawyerly Twitter, however, did not hold back in letting Snell know how wrong he was.
Stop listening to dumb Hot Takes like this. It’s made up. That’s not what misprision of a felony is. /1 https://t.co/RsuZV116s1

Read the thread for the legalese. We’ll move on to the tar-and-feathering stage.
Absolutely tremendous use of "I am a lawyer" here. A true master of the genre. https://t.co/17rhGu915U

Smithsonian-worthy.
if Maggie Haberman committed a felony, shouldn't you report her to DOJ, lest you be guilty of the same crime by failing to do so?
— S 😷💉 (@vidiot_) September 27, 2022
Uh oh! Looks like Tristan did a misprision!
Your opinions are a stain on the legal profession. Stop.
— Bob Jeffers (@bobjeffers559) September 27, 2022
We’re conflicted. Yes, he should stop, but reporting horrible Twitter takes is sort of our thing.
I don't like Haberman, but you must be a terrible lawyer.

Fair.

Tristan has not improved the situation.
Eating their own.

It’s so beautiful. We can’t look away.
Are you trying to get a shoutout from @BadLegalTakes?
— リチャード! (@RichardGJP) September 27, 2022
It’s a bold move Cotton, let’s see if it pays off.
— Bad Legal Takes (@BadLegalTakes) September 27, 2022
Yep, there it is.
Tristan Snell should find another line of work. https://t.co/nlNZbANvw2
— max (@MaxNordau) September 27, 2022
His tweets are gonna be so weird though … ‘I’m not a journalist … but I am a cashier at the Piggly Wiggly.’
Not all lawyers were created equal. This one needs directions to find the criminal courthouse. https://t.co/DIBcnhywAo

Heh.
I woke up from a dead sleep just to tell you that misprision generally requires active concealment, not just mere silence, in order to meet all the required elements.
Do you not have WestLaw? https://t.co/ykJ6VSJZkI
— Col. Boozy Badger (@BoozyBadger) September 27, 2022
‘Do you even WestLaw, bro?’
Bad Legal Takes, Musical Edition:
🎶When you witness a crime but you act like a mime that’s misprision (that’s misprision)🎶

Nice.
Lord, you’re not a very good lawyer. Did you look up a single case discussing the elements of misprision (specifically including affirmative concealment) before you posted this? https://t.co/7RY5mGOGjZ

Shakes Magic 8 Ball … ‘Very Doubtful’.
My sources say the death penalty, for misprison, is being considered for @maggieNYT.
I am pro-life and take no pleasure in reporting this. https://t.co/VON5jgdV1W
— Philip (@Philip_DT) September 27, 2022
LOL. Sorry, Maggie.
No profession has suffered more reputational harm from twitter than lawyers https://t.co/Rmdc6fEzpl
— tyson brody (@tysonbrody) September 27, 2022
Not for lack of trying by the other professions, but Snell is doing his best to put Team Lawyer in the lead.
You don’t need to have any abiding love for Maggie Haberman to know that a clout-chasing dingus saying she’s guilty of misprision of a felony because she didn’t immediately report Trump to the FBI is a better clout-chasing dingus than he is a lawyer. https://t.co/6k3SUHprj9
— Mike Ensminger Fan Account (@laplanck) September 27, 2022
Clout-Chasing Dingus used to open for Jackyl back in the 90’s.
THAT’S NOT HOW MISPRISION WORKS YOU ABSOLUTE LAMPPOST https://t.co/WOHVoWV75K

Lamppost. Ha!
Yeah let’s start locking up journalists! What a ridiculous feed this guy’s account turned into https://t.co/a2vDKgqPIY
— Scott Stedman (@ScottMStedman) September 27, 2022
Anyone else notice the anti-fascist crowd is having fever dreams about imprisoning a journalist? Weird, huh? (Not really.)

From the last time Tristan peddled this nonsense. He knows the truth. He doesn’t care. He wants the clicks as he makes a mockery of his license. pic.twitter.com/RhK1FK4kus
— Damin Toell (@damintoell) September 27, 2022
It’s not the first time Snell has waded into the waters of lousy lawyering. We doubt it will be the last.
