Earlier, we told you about the tasteless Jim Brown obituary from The New York Times. CNN decided to go the completely opposite direction with their tweet about Jordan Neely’s funeral.
In the case of Jim Brown, he earned national fame for his legendary achievements in football and civil rights activism. The New York Times took the opportunity of his death to discuss his alleged moral failings.
In the case of Jordan Neely, he became famous because he met a tragic end at the hands of the passengers he scared enough to believe they needed to restrain him. CNN is using the opportunity of his funeral to reform his image.

It is perfectly right for Neely’s family to remember the good qualities and potential of the man they loved while mourning his loss.
The unfortunate reality, however, is that most of us would have never known who Jordan Neely was if not for his descent into mental illness and untimely death.
It is quite misleading for CNN and other outlets to hail Neely as a ‘street artist’, accompanied by boyish photos from a decade past.
He was no longer that young man. The system failed him, and it failed Daniel Penny and the other passengers who should have never had to make a decision about how to respond to Neely.
“Street artist”? He was a violent, mentally ill, criminal who repeatedly threatened and assaulted people.
One can have sympathy for his condition while at the same time realizing the guy who restrained him is a hero.

Did you ask subway riders how they remembered him?

Al Sharpton showed up to deliver the eulogy because of course he did.
The Reverend Al never misses an opportunity to capitalize on a family’s grief. In his eulogy, he stated:
‘You didn’t have the right to snatch the life out of this young man.’
To be clear, nobody has credibly alleged that Daniel Penny had any intention of doing serious harm to Jordan Neely. The media will only talk about Daniel Penny because the black passenger who was helping restrain Neely puts quite a wrinkle in the race narrative that grifters like Al Sharpton want to make bank on.

Maybe ‘news’ organizations should get out of the business of trying to manipulate public opinion about how people should be remembered after death altogether.
Note, it’s not just the headline. Consider this from the article:
‘Neely, 30, known for his Michael Jackson impersonations, was restrained in a chokehold May 1 on a Manhattan subway by another rider, Daniel Penny, after Neely began shouting that he was hungry, thirsty and had little to live for.’
It was cnn's take on a story that red pilled me. They're still at it. Neely shouted he wanted to hurt someone and was willing to go to jail to do so. And was a career criminal. None of that in this lede https://t.co/E5E1mU6Xhk

This guy gets it. Eyewitnesses and police reports claim Neely was acting aggressively and used words such as ‘kill’ and ‘bullet’. There is no reason to doubt passengers felt threatened, whether Neely was actually a threat to them or not.

We can only hope. In the meantime, it would be nice if journalists looked at why Jordan Neely ended up in these circumstances and what might be done to prevent it from happening again.
