Now that everyone is finally admitting that school closures had a detrimental effect on America’s kids, including learning loss, Randi Weingarten just wants to move on.
It was a pandemic, after all. Everyone was suffering! What’s a little extra suffering for your kiddos? Let’s just focus on helping them recover and thrive.
She’s going to be asking for more money next, isn’t she?
The bottom line is everyone suffered in the pandemic.. because of the pandemic. The disruption was everywhere, and it was bad regardless of whether schools were remote or in person. We are focused now on the urgent need to help kids recover and thrive. https://t.co/tFQGskaT0T

Randi probably should have read past the first tweet in the thread she retweeted.
Some true things.
1. U.S. studies have found districts w/ more school closures had worse learning loss.
2. England had fewer closures than us, but similar learning loss.
3. Netherlands had fewer closures, LESS learning loss.
4. Learning loss was ~everywhere, regardless of policy pic.twitter.com/4DsNbx8NFo— Derek Thompson (@DKThomp) October 29, 2022
Remote or hybrid school ‘had profound consequences for student achievement’. It also did greater damage to poor kids. Maybe even the white kids too, eh Joe Biden?
Unfortunately, Randi, the thread continues.
My read of U.S. data, which I know ppl disagree with, is that school closures created more harm to kids than they prevented in adults.
But learning loss is also a pandemic phenomenon, whose global correlation to school policy is iffy. It's complicated.https://t.co/Jke0WCUhm0 pic.twitter.com/StBYFZ8D8w

‘School closures created more harm to kids than they prevented in adults’.
Randi Weingarten and the teachers unions had a significant impact on extending school closures in the United States.
They’d like you to forget that now and just move on. After all, blaming people for their actions during an unprecedented pandemic is really not fair, right?
9 m cases, and a record number of #covid cases today.. this is Trump’s failure… #vote https://t.co/RctlHxxQpn

Oh, I guess everyone suffered during the pandemic, because of Trump, back in 2020.
Just so we're clear: COVID is surging. Trump continues to ignore the virus that has cost lives, hurt the economy, and shut down our schools. We need leaders who take is seriously so that we can have a plan to recover. https://t.co/TukvLbHqQG

We don’t know about you, but it wasn’t really the greatest situation that a woman who had such powerful influence over keeping your kids out of school was also using school closures as a wedge to try to elect Joe Biden.
Twitter users had some thoughts for Randi (in quote tweets, of course, because Randi always locks down replies, for democracy and stuff).
Here's another example of "It's not important for who is to blame" https://t.co/jSJGH7WyMs

Pay no attention to the Democrat activist behind the curtain.
It's you, hi, you're the problem, it's you. https://t.co/PGXP2AQ8Zv

No, Randi. You and your union made it so much worse than it needed to be. And we’ll never let you forget it. https://t.co/6Tr4icGWUv

And the truth shall set you free! Or … at least maybe your kids the next time these bozos try to pull something like this.
Wrong. Students suffered because of decisions made by leaders during the pandemic. Thankfully, @govrondesantis listened to science, not teachers unions. https://t.co/ppmV49lucg

And was roundly criticized for it as a science denier, if we recall correctly.

Yep.
You're too late, Randi. You done messed up. The adults will take it from here. https://t.co/NYZbYgN3Um

‘The adults are back in charge.’ We like it.
Another reminder NOT to vote for teachers’ union backed candidates. Ever. https://t.co/lxvPFYTogE

This is a good idea. There’s probably a certain political party that is regularly backed by these unions (see Equus asinus).
