It’s a bit contradictory to call Neil deGrasse Tyson a ‘killjoy’ because every time he tries to ruin something with his physics hot takes, we end up having a good laugh.
It’s sort of his shtick.
Neil decided to weigh in on the movie Top Gun: Maverick about 4 months after its release.
Late to the party here, but In this year’s @TopGunMovie, @TomCruise’s character Maverick ejects from a hypersonic plane at Mach 10.5, before it crashed.
He survived with no injuries.
At that air speed, his body would splatter like a chainmail glove swatting a worm. Just sayin’. pic.twitter.com/YP9IKVc8VS

Twitter responded, and as is usually the case with Tyson’s hot takes, it was hilarious.
wait you're saying it's not a true story?

Spoiler alert!
— David Doel (@daviddoel) October 9, 2022
LOL!
Thank god, I was about to do mach 10.5 myself. You really saved my bacon.

Phew!

We are laughing!
Later at the party, Neil tells a joke:
Why did the chicken cross the road?
Chickens do not have the cognitive ability to reason. Therefore, it was random.*at that moment, Neil who wasn't invited, is asked to leave. https://t.co/mwo3joxbww

Recommended
We’re pretty sure the chicken crossed the road to get away from Neil.
I'm reiterating something I've said before, but I feel it's once more warranted…
Neil deGrasse Tyson is the kind of guy that would tell a child that their parents are statistically likely to get divorced in the future. https://t.co/aIcbrCk2b7

Bwahaha!
I can tell you from personal TV CSI experience that crime scenes aren’t actually solved by people in high heeled boots and DNA processing is rarely if ever set to rock music. #shhh https://t.co/8R5MBbsbg8

Why are people ruining everything?! LOL.
This is like in The Office when Michael apologizes for being late to the party no one wanted him at https://t.co/HtLLLbZyJb
— Ben McDonald (@Bmac0507) October 9, 2022
Nice.
Wrong again. You should research more before tweeting BS. There are ways to safely eject a pilot at hypersonic speed. We even had a way to do it in the 1960's. The X-15, which topped out at Mach 6.7, had an ejection system designed for hypersonic speed.https://t.co/yVpFn04w7S https://t.co/vG7G6IBvX8

Many users wanted to let Neil know he was wrong, even in the real world. We don’t think Neil really cares.
We're only two months away from @neiltyson ruining Christmas! https://t.co/TuMzv4PLoo

We can hardly wait.
One aspect of science nobody really talks about is one's duty to jump in late to a movie discussion and "well, aaaackshully" fictional plot point. https://t.co/AhqIf1s4FO

Correct. Neil deGrasse Tyson is providing a much needed service to humanity.
Why would a chainmail glove swatting a worm splatter https://t.co/FNxH67Q92o
— Kyle Mann (@The_Kyle_Mann) October 9, 2022
He’s an astrophysicist, not a grammatician!
I love you Neil but shut up🙏🏾❤️ https://t.co/b7AHf0tfA2

But it’s so much fun! Besides, according to data from the CDC, it’s likely we’ll only have these takes from Neil deGrasse Tyson for another 6.8 years.
Man, that got dark.
