There are no double standards quite like those from the "progressive left" media, which certainly includes MS NOW's Chris Hayes (and a lot of other people on that cable net).
Democrats like to slam billionaires throwing their money at political campaigns, but to a large degree they hope everybody believes that the super-rich only support Republicans.
Hayes was willing to concede that there are notorious billionaires who throw fortunes at the Democrats, but as usual that's "D"ifferent. Watch, via @WesternLensman:

Unfathomable amounts! He could be saving lives with that money!
On Soros:
Ok sure they spend a lot of money for Democrats, but the right wingers are drowning them out!
So on the nose, it's funny. pic.twitter.com/WykrPPEJ4Z
These lefties really shouldn't make it so obvious.

Hayes literally doing the meme

These people shouldn't be so predictable.
The irony is hilarious to witness. One billionaire spending on campaigns is bad but the biggest donor to the Left for decades is perfectly fine.

If it helps keeping Dems out of office then he is saving lives
— Smitty (@RDSUK) September 1, 2026
The funniest part is that Elon probably IS saving lives with that money.

Anybody who helps keep Democrats out of office is helping achieve that end.
