The Democrat and media approach when it comes to spin for Republican initiatives for voter ID is to pretend it's still 1850 in the United States and minorities have no rights. The Left takes a similar path pertaining to gay rights in the U.S.: Pretend America is basically Saudi Arabia except maybe worse.
Before I get to the Chronicle's insane and desperate take, a reminder about what month just started:
During #PrideMonth we celebrate love, freedom and the courage to live authentically.
— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) June 1, 2026
From San Francisco to communities across our nation, we honor the trailblazers and activists who expanded the promise of equality and pledge to carry on the work they began.

Pride is joy. Pride is courage. Pride is a celebration. And Pride is the ongoing fight to ensure every person can live as their authentic self.
— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) June 1, 2026
This month and every month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and all those continuing the fight for equality.

Sure, Kamala, keep focusing on this stuff because it worked out just great for you in 2024! Well, it worked out well for the Republicans anyway.
However, TDS now dictates that the lefty media and many others pretend the United States is currently the worst, most unfair place in the world, which is how we end up with birdcage liner, like this doozy:
The open hostility to gay rights in today’s U.S. creates an anxious environment for fans traveling to attend World Cup matches. Pride Houses, such as the one in San Francisco, offer a safe haven. https://t.co/8SUMZtxCQ8

These "journalists" should never be taken seriously:

Now do how Qatar - host of the 2022 World Cup - is a safe haven for gays.
— IT Guy (@ITGuy1959) June 1, 2026
The last World Cup was in Qatar. https://t.co/O9WXbFenzf
— David Marcus (@BlueBoxDave) June 1, 2026
Hence the much-needed Community Note:
The previous FIFA World Cup in 2022 was hosted by Qatar, where same-sex acts are illegal and punishable by up to 7 years in prison, unlike the US where they have been legal nationwide since 2003 and same-sex marriage since 2015.
The people who applauded the Chronicle's take are probably the same ones who wear "Queers for Palestine" t-shirts. It's also worth noting that the 2018 World Cup was hosted by Russia. But suddenly we're going to be expected to believe that Trump, who likes to say that his walkout music at rallies is "the gay national anthem," is bringing on the oppression for an event that he was pivotal in securing for the U.S. during his first term.
The lefty media continues to be worthy of derision.
