Democrats and socialists (sometimes one in the same) in New York are congratulating themselves again.
Our story picks up right about here, with Gov. Kathy Hochul shoveling a few billion taxpayer dollars to New York City:

But wait, there's more:
The bailout also included $202 million in vaguely described “actions to offset recurring spending obligations.” Officials later clarified that meant the state would pick up half the city’s tap to cover costs of line of duty death benefits for families of first responders. The total tab will be $101 million a year, or $202 million for two years, according to officials.
Hochul also claimed to fork over $361 million in “other actions,” which were not immediately clear.
“The Executive Budget closes over half of the gap with short-term strategies, rather than a full-scale effort to shrink spending that doesn’t deliver for New Yorkers,” said Andrew Rein, president of the Citizens Budget Commission, in a statement.
“A pension gimmick and temporary plugs exacerbate fiscal problems rather than solve them.”
Exacerbating fiscal problems rather than solving them is what socialists and Democrats do.
In the hopes that his voters are economically illiterate (and perhaps many or all are) Mamdani took to X and did some bragging:
When we came into office, we uncovered a $12 billion budget deficit.

Today, I’m proud to say we brought it down to zero.
We didn’t close the gap on the backs of working people.
We closed it while funding parks, libraries, safer streets and making historic investments in public… pic.twitter.com/TbNu6fhvjs
Naturally, this is music to Bernie Sanders' ears because it's "balancing the budget," socialist-style:
Congratulations to Mayor Mamdani. He inherited a huge budget deficit, brought it down to zero, and still invested in childcare, housing and city infrastructure.

When municipal governments stand with working families, not billionaires, there is nothing they cannot accomplish. https://t.co/SSJvrVMRWq
It's a total mystery why entire governments run by people with this mindset end up collapsing, right?
Only a democrat would consider borrowing money to pay off a deficit “bringing it down to zero“

These people have no business being in any part of our government. https://t.co/jXncsYIfkJ
Communists will balloon a deficit, get a bailout from taxpayers, and then congratulate themselves.

There is no level of shame they aren’t familiar with. https://t.co/GJGXCuP7U9
It's like when Democrats take taxpayer money to fund something and then praise themselves as compassionate philanthropists.

He looted reserves, and got an $8,000,000,000 bailout from the state, and you congratulate him.
Have you failed math, or become masochistic? https://t.co/DPbyZQuDYG
Remember it’s not that they don’t understand how any of this works. It’s that they think you don’t under how any of this works. https://t.co/CP9RgvAiqD

And way too many voters every election prove these socialist liars correct to assume that about a sizable portion of the electorate.
