As we learned over the last few weeks, not that it wasn't already obvious, but all President Trump had to do in order to get congressional Democrats and some of their stenographers in the media to defend violent crime was to start federally enforcing laws in Washington, DC.
The talking points from the Left started at "crime in DC is WAY down and this extra enforcement isn't necessary and ended up at "the crime isn't happening where the federal officers are patrolling!" The Dem defenses of violent crime got so bad that even MSNBC's "Morning Joe" tried to tell them to knock it off:

Coming out in favor of violent crime just because "Trump bad" isn't playing well for the Dems? I couldn't be more surprised.
Democrats are struggling to mount a response as Trump has federalized Washington, D.C., and seized control of the Metropolitan Police Department while threatening to take similar actions in other Democratic cities.
In interviews with The Hill, some Democrats have expressed frustration with their party’s emphasis on decreasing crime rates instead of focusing on the way voters feel walking the streets of their city.
It's pretty amazing how out of touch some of these Dems are based on the fact they're surprised that coming out in favor of allowing more crime isn't very popular with the general public.
It would help if Democrats didn’t champion the criminals as heroes.

Maybe the Democrats wouldn't have that particular "challenge" if they weren't just plain nuts and determined to oppose Trump on anything and everything.
