Late last month Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said he had no regrets over the botched and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan in August of 2021. Austin also admitted that nobody has been held accountable (the Biden WH likely doesn’t think that’s necessary because it would ruin the impression they’re trying to force that the withdrawal was a smashing success). Here’s what Austin said at a recent hearing:

Breitbart Pentagon reporter Kristina Wong has added on to the above video a great thread about what accountability would look like, not that we’ll ever see it from the Biden administration:
Accountability looks specifically like people being fired and held accountable for various bad decisions related to the disastrous withdrawal, not patting yourself on the back for putting as many Afghans — many unvetted — on a plane as possible to turn it into a PR “win,” at the… https://t.co/RZ29qCIb6V

For all this to happen would require responsible, accountable leadership, which obviously there’s none of in the White House:
It looks like pinpointing exactly what went wrong and who was responsible for killing an Afghan aid worker and his family, including children, and not calling it a “righteous strike” even after evidence the strike killed innocent civilians.

Instead of accountability, this administration is blaming Biden’s predecessor… of course. How does the Biden White House know it’s Trump’s fault? Well, Biden investigated Biden’s withdrawal and exonerated the current administration of any wrongdoing. “Accountability” would mean something else:
Secondarily, an apology and some sort of INDEPENDENT review so these mistakes will never be repeated. Then you share the results of that review publicly and transparently in a timely manner.

Then you honor Afghanistan War veterans and their families and try to give them a sense of closure they may not have received because we conducted a chaotic, Vietnam-style withdrawal that ended in the Taliban taking over every single ground they fought to hold. Not turn the page…

Everyone knows what accountability looks like. This isn’t it.

No it isn’t. Whatever’s happening is the exact opposite of accountability.
Kristina sums up well what needs to happen, but never will in our current political environment. https://t.co/vM8lrJB92g
