Another day brings with it more retractions and corrections from a media outlet. First up is the Washington Post, and it’s in regards to a story that reported the FBI issued warnings to OAN and Rudy Giuliani that they were being targeted by a Russia disinformation campaign ahead of the November election.
Major retraction by the Washington Post:
“An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported One America News was warned by the FBI that it was the target of a Russian influence operation. That version also said the FBI had provided a similar warning to Rudy Giuliani.” pic.twitter.com/1bUoSUiPjs

Big retraction from WaPo: “This version has been corrected to remove assertions that OAN and Giuliani received the warnings…” https://t.co/x6ZfQ0WR7u pic.twitter.com/t8p35oMelt

But, as we’re quite used to, the original story containing the “fake news” got amplified immediately:
Rudy Giuliani was warned by the FBI in 2019 that he was the target of a Russian disinformation campaign designed to discredit Joe Biden.https://t.co/FR4NXyBXS5
— MSNBC (@MSNBC) May 1, 2021
The New York Times had a similar story but made changes that as of now are not noted:
Yet another false but serious claim retracted. Note that — as Darcy documents in the subsequent tweet — the NYT also reported this false claim, but rather than correct or retract it, they just quietly removed it with no comment. Stealth editing of major errors is unethical: https://t.co/xtkBpqXac3

Before and after in NYT’s story. The NYT story does not include a retraction or acknowledgment that the reporting on a defensive briefing was removed. https://t.co/EV5N7XXTSk pic.twitter.com/jpdAQ4QLKf

Nice try though, NY Times.
So it's not enough for the WaPost and NYT reporters to simply regurgitate what their intelligence sources feed them… They evidently need to embellish as well!

What an embarrassment, @wapo, you owe your readers an explanation https://t.co/mbM2KxThKc
— Yayger got his vax (@_Yayger) May 1, 2021
oh well would you look at that, a big splashy story getting walked back, what are the odds https://t.co/eGrDoelhjG
— David Hines (@hradzka) May 1, 2021
And the race-baiting network MSNBC it's still pushing it as of last night https://t.co/d46ogSI7g8

And, as usual…
The retraction is going to get, at most, 25% of the exposure the original article did. https://t.co/tYveYQExkj

Yep.
Update:
It took @ggreenwald's tweet to shame the New York Times into journalisming. https://t.co/4aVhXds7Bl
