As we told you earlier, the Associated Press’s tweet outlining the 50th anniversary of Chappaquiddick and the death of Mary Jo Kopechne made Ted Kennedy and his passenger sound like victims of his car:

The AP’s tweet got some important re-writes from people who remember the story better than some in the media seem to, and it also caught the eye of Brit Hume, who explained the approach that was taken:
“car went off a bridge…” Back in my wire service days, we’d use such vague formulations in initial stories about fatal car crashes when we didn’t know for sure what happened. 50 years later, there’s no doubt what happened at Chappaquiddick. The AP had that coming.
