In the midst of a class warfare thread from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, we find this explainer about whose wealth the government should confiscate more of, and why:
When we say “tax the rich,” we mean nesting-doll yacht rich. For-profit prison rich. Betsy DeVos, student-loan-shark rich.
Trick-the-country-into-war rich. Subsidizing-workforce-w-food-stamps rich.
Because THAT kind of rich is simply not good for society, & it’s like 10 people.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 11, 2019
It was nice of her to just come right out and say it:
So since it is like 10 people you admit we are taxing because you do not like how rich they are. Not to substantially increase revenues.

Did…did she just admit that "tax the rich" is for class resentment not revenue generation?
I have no idea how to react to this much honesty

Ocasio-Cortez pretty much made those people sound like criminals who have violated an unwritten law against having too much money.
Achieving that type of success is something people should aspire to, not something to be demonized as "not good for society". Every single society/country has ultra rich. AOC's ideal society will simply shift who is in that group from those who create to those who take power. https://t.co/mcIdEOq0qF

What society didn't have ultra rich? Kings didn't live like peasants. Dictators in Communist countries (which AOC wants to imitate) are all ultra-rich compared to regular people. They simply get that way by seizing their wealth. While in America, most of the rich create wealth.

That wealth creation is what allows America to have a thriving middle-class. It's what allows the poor in America to live better than 95% of people around the world and gives them opportunity to move up.
AOC wants to be able to take/use what others create.
— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) May 11, 2019
It's a world-views based completely in jealousy and ignorance.
"Why should they have what I can't have?"
Because they/their families did something for it. They created value and jobs so others can live better.
— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) May 11, 2019
The problem is that these people don't know how to add value, just redistribute it. So yes, they can redistribute the wealth via gov't force, but thus stymie further creation because it eliminates all incentives for creation. Eventually, you run out of other people's money.

Bingo!
Wait…if we're only taxing 'like 10 people' it going to amount to next to nothing. The federal budget is measured by TRILLIONS….even hundreds of millions or a couple billion extra is almost meaningless.

But progressives would feel better because they will have “gotten even,” or something like that.
Got it.
Our government will target 10 of its otherwise law abiding citizens and take what they've earned b/c others decided they have too much. This means none of us are safe.
Nothing we earn is safe from you.
You'll simply decide to take, & you'll take. https://t.co/GzINyCwWAn— Populo AOC Parody Iratus (@cmahar3) May 11, 2019
We’re going to solve healthcare by taxing 10 people who are caricatures of evil. https://t.co/3wlXthQfPu

When we say “tax the rich,” we mean is demonize the rich. Trick-the-country-into-class-warfare-for-votes demonize the rich.
Because THAT kind of demonizing the rich is cheap and easy and dishonest and lazy, & we figure we can get away with it. #Democrats https://t.co/bnfT6HHlx6

But ultra rich Tom Steyer is ok. 🙂
— Kris Kinder (@kris_kinder) May 11, 2019
Steyer’s the “good” kind of super-rich, in no small part due to the fact that he donates a lot of that money to Democrats.
