As we told you last night, a mob of protesters scared the family of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson at their home:
‘We know where you sleep at night! You are not safe’: Antifa mob holds ‘protest’ outside Tucker Carlson’s home https://t.co/qr6fMJbyNs
— Twitchy Team (@TwitchyTeam) November 8, 2018
Carlson’s wife said she thought the banging on the front door was a home invasion and then hid in a closet, but Vox’s Matt Yglesias tried to explain it all as if there’s any excuse whatsoever:
Oh, @mattyglesias deleted all his tweets? That’s precious. I’ve got one, who’s got the rest from this thread of assholery? pic.twitter.com/qHBPwMC9PO
— Will (@Oil_Guns_Merica) November 9, 2018
I think the idea behind terrorizing his family, like it or not as a strategy, is to make them feel some of the fear that the victims of MAGA-inspired violence feel thanks to the non-stop racial incitement coming from Tucker, Trump, etc. https://t.co/hmBTBtcTBM
— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) November 8, 2018
I agree that this is probably not tactically sound but if your instinct is to empathize with the fear of the Carlson family rather than with the fear of his victims then you should take a moment to reflect on why that is.
— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) November 8, 2018
Wait, what?
His "victims"? What's wrong with you? https://t.co/90KTaTfUyK
— Vince Coglianese (@TheDCVince) November 8, 2018
Wow. We’ll get back to that in a minute.
Yglesias then fielded a couple of comments:
Can you empathize with both?
— HN (@latchkeyme) November 8, 2018
I honestly cannot empathize with Tucker Carlson’s wife at all — I agree that protesting at her house was tactically unwise and shouldn’t be done — but I am utterly unable to identify with her plight on any level. https://t.co/1YRAY8DuWC
— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) November 8, 2018
Don't publicly speak when you're upset. Especially if you are well-aware that you've spoken rashly in the past.
— Bryan Caplan (@bryan_caplan) November 8, 2018
This is good advice and I’m gonna try to take it and stop tweeting for a bit. https://t.co/jRx8aAGXeN
— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) November 8, 2018
Maybe a bit too late? Yglesias really got taken to the woodshed over that take:
I hope you get ratio’d in the comments for supporting acts of violence against Tucker Carlson’s family. https://t.co/jKyFx36mIB

When you equate speech with violence you can then condone actual violence. This is the new lefthttps://t.co/2q8NmHQddZ
— Kurt Beyer (@beyerku) November 8, 2018
So what’s your interpretation of these tweets then, @brianstelter? pic.twitter.com/rFc0ZDsef1
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) November 8, 2018
I'm sure Matt would feel the same way if a mob showed up at his house because they thought he was victimizatizing people via his preference for soft socialism. Or would all bets be off if it was your doorstep, Matt? https://t.co/bz6vx2FPiy
— SarahLee (@sarailola) November 8, 2018
Again proving that Yglesias isn't only dumb… But is a pretty horrible human being. https://t.co/OeOejSy23N
— Pradheep J. Shanker, M.D., M.S. (@Neoavatara) November 8, 2018
You are a freaking idiot. Reverse the role and put your family in that situation. You would shit your pants and be crying to the authorities https://t.co/NIRKC2kNbn
— Mark Willoughby (@TheViewfrom111) November 8, 2018
Words are not violence. If they were, your words could be construed as a threat to the safety of Tucker Carlson and his family. Do you see how that works? https://t.co/yhBqRqngjd
— Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) November 8, 2018
This is utterly disgusting as well as moronic. @TuckerCarlson doesn't have victims, he has viewers. They can turn him off if they like. You are demonizing speech and have lost your way. https://t.co/BU6KtxAa1s
— Andrew Klavan (@andrewklavan) November 8, 2018
Oh my hell. You are just an awful person https://t.co/RCCQtyWKe3
— Chet Cannon (@Chet_Cannon) November 8, 2018
If this is a real tweet, you are part of the problem dude. https://t.co/GNqjvSU1rO
— Roy Nowak (@RecruiterRoy) November 8, 2018
It's called bullying, dude, and nobody should be doing it https://t.co/pMRdoAOzqW

Protesting and frightening people at their private homes is wrong across the board. It’s very telling that he wasn’t able to just say that.
