UAE citizen illegally in US taken into federal custody after ammunition found in Florida hotel room

From WFTV:

A man was taking into federal custody Thursday on charges of possession of ammunition by an unlawful or illegal alien, according to the Department of Justice.

Authorities said Hamid Rehaif, 25, is being held without bail at the Seminole County Jail.

Federal agents said Rehaif, a citizen of the United Arab Emirates, raised suspicions after he checked in and out of the Hotel Rialto in Melbourne throughout a 53-day period.

Court documents show that agents found 28 rounds of ammunition in his hotel room and that he had been to local shooting ranges for target practice.

According to WFTV citing local law enforcement officials, Rehaif paid in excess of $11,000 in cash for the room fees.
