Late last year, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act into law. Among the items in the NDAA was Texas Sen. John Cornyn’s measure to award Purple Hearts to those wounded or killed when Nidal Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood in 2009. The attack had originally been deemed “workplace violence” instead of a terrorist attack.
Defense of Freedom Medals and Purple Hearts will be awarded this week:
