'Bull': Sen. Gillibrand won't name congressional harasser in order to 'elevate the debate'

In a new book by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, the New York Democrat alleges past instances of sexist remarks from unnamed male congressional colleagues and others. Among them, Sen. Gillibrand wrote that a congressman once referred to her as “porky” when she was eight months pregnant.

Who was that congressman? Gillibrand can’t or won’t say:

Here is a partial transcript from the Gillibrand interview in the video linked above:

Host: Someone in the gym in Congress actually called you…

Gillibrand: He said “good thing you’re working out, you wouldn’t want to get porky” when I’m like eight months pregnant. That’s a terrible thing to say.

Host: So who said it?

Gillibrand: Some very old congressman.

Host: Is he still there?

Gillibrand: I don’t know. I really, I didn’t know him.

Host: You don’t remember?

Gillibrand: I didn’t know him. I had no idea who he was, and he felt it was OK to give unsolicited advice.

Host: So the reason why you didn’t name him is because you don’t know who he is.

Gillibrand: No, I don’t go into those kind of details because it’s not — the focus, and the purpose of including these details is so you can elevate the debate to talk about some of the broader challenges women face in all work places.

It’s for the greater good of women (and will “elevate the debate”) if Gillibrand does not name names?

Other factors are suspected:
