A 15-year-old Russian skater named Yulia Lipnitskaya won a gold medal today in the free skate performance that blew many away.
Lipnitskaya’s choice of the theme from the film Schindler’s List as accompanying music still has people buzzing on Twitter:
The Russian Phenom couldn't have topped last night. Then she used John Williams' Schindler's List theme & took it to another level. #unreal

@Lisibelle87 Schindler's List. Hence the red coat. I wept. She's the high point of the games!

Figure skating to the Schindler's List theme when people cheer is a bit unsettling to me.

Interesting choice of Schindler's LIst music & costume for Lipnitskaia. Not sure how I feel about it #Olympics2014

As lovely as Yulia Lipnitskaya is, having trouble with the Schindler's List theme. #thinksheknows?

Schindler's List music and a red trenchcoat? You stay classy, Russia #Sochi2014

For those who haven't seen the film Schindler's List, the red is significant, which to me made it even more emotional.

Schindler's List is some pretty dark music for a fifteen-year-old skater. But my goodness, she's exquisite. #Sochi2014
