Glenn Greenwald: Heathrow Airport detention of partner a 'failed attempt at intimidation'

The partner of Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald, who was given NSA leaks by Edward Snowden, was detained for nearly nine hours at Heathrow Airport in London before being released without being arrested, but he didn’t walk away with all his things.

From the Associated Press:

David Miranda, the partner of Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald, was held for nearly the maximum time authorities are allowed to detain individuals under the Terrorism Act’s Schedule 7, which authorizes security agencies to stop and question people at borders. Greenwald said Miranda’s cellphone, laptops and memory sticks were confiscated.

So far authorities who detained Greenwald’s partner have not revealed what was on the property they confiscated.

Actor Adam Baldwin advises Greenwald:

Greenwald said authorities were trying to send him a message:

Even though authorities in London haven’t yet revealed what material was on the confiscated items, the New York Times is reporting that the confiscated thumb drives contain “all of the documents came from the trove of materials provided to the two journalists by Mr. Snowden.”
