Maybe because Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey have gone unrecognized and underappreciated for far too long.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the United States. This year, Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey will be among the 16 honorees.
