People who will not or can’t safely keep and store their guns shouldn’t have them, but gun buybacks are not remedies for carelessness.
Mazar tweeted that she used to own guns:
I WAS a gun owner/precision [email protected] after kids, put in a lock box. What do I tell the perp.."wait.i gotta go unlock my gun?1 min!"??

Aside from serving as expensive photo ops for politicians, gun buybacks accomplish little. In spite of that, Mazar will get her wish, because New York City will spend $150,000 on ten gun buyback events later this year. Geraldo should be pleased as well, but if people are expecting the buyback to make a big dent in the number of criminal shootings, history shows they might end up being disappointed.
