'CCP thanks you for your service': NY Times does an image makeover for China ahead of the Winter Olympics

The Winter Games will begin in China next month, and even though the U.S. is among countries that will have a diplomatic boycott, U.S. athletes will still compete. However, China has reportedly warned athletes from other countries that any political statements against the regime will be “subject to punishment”:

Yang Shu, deputy director general of international relations for the Beijing Organizing Committee (BOC), issued a clear warning that “Any expression that is in line with the Olympic spirit I’m sure will be protected.”

“Any behavior or speech that is against the Olympic spirit, especially against Chinese laws and regulations, are also subject to certain punishment,” Yang stressed during a news conference Tuesday.

With that in mind, we’re guessing the Chinese leadership won’t disapprove of how the New York Times has helped out with the pro-CCP public relations:

The Times is really hoping Xi sees that.

The Times is apparently prepared to let bygones be bygones, even though Covid-19 is not gone.

Bingo.
