In February, the Washington Post editorial board called on Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to resign after a photo showing him in blackface surfaced:
The Washington Post Editorial Board writes that Northam “can no longer effectively serve the people of Virginia who elected him.”https://t.co/5U0iqvergX

That same month, WaPo columnist Karen Tumulty wrote this column:
Opinion: Ralph Northam must resign. And that’s just a start. https://t.co/04nKeKsGYt
— The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) February 2, 2019
But something obviously changed over the course of several months:
Back when a racist photo first surfaced in his medical school yearbook, most Va lawmakers, our editorial page (and yours truly) said @GovernorVA should resign. We were wrong. https://t.co/bA25YpnWbk

From the Editorial Board:
How Ralph Northam came back from the political dead https://t.co/ch5otGaVY4— Washington Post Opinions (@PostOpinions) December 28, 2019
The Washington Post’s editorial board outlined in a new editorial how Northam has basically atoned for the photos that surfaced (though the paper says it’s still not known if Northam is actually one of the people pictured because he claimed it isn’t him). Apparently something changed. What could have hastened the forgiveness?
So much for "holding our side accountable." https://t.co/MLNChtM3t6

It's nice you're going on record to say racism is fine with you as long as it's a member of your favorite party guilty of it.
The honesty is refreshing and long overdue.

The Post’s editorial is titled “How Ralph Northam came back from the political dead.” The consensus opinion seems to be that the answer is “because he’s a Democrat.”
