'Color me shocked': WaPo editorial has columnist saying 'we were wrong' for calling on Ralph Northam to resign (ratio alert!)

In February, the Washington Post editorial board called on Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to resign after a photo showing him in blackface surfaced:

That same month, WaPo columnist Karen Tumulty wrote this column:

But something obviously changed over the course of several months:

The Washington Post’s editorial board outlined in a new editorial how Northam has basically atoned for the photos that surfaced (though the paper says it’s still not known if Northam is actually one of the people pictured because he claimed it isn’t him). Apparently something changed. What could have hastened the forgiveness?

The Post’s editorial is titled “How Ralph Northam came back from the political dead.” The consensus opinion seems to be that the answer is “because he’s a Democrat.”
