As we told you last night, President Trump’s comments about Robert E. Lee at a Friday rally had the media serving up select quotes without providing full context:
You're about to see a bunch of libs attack Trump about Robert E. Lee. Shockingly, it's all BS https://t.co/FCwuQHS9tx

Here’s one such media tweet containing just a few words:
.@POTUS: “Robert E. Lee was a great General…”
— Morgan Radford (@MorganRadford) October 13, 2018
That was more than enough for Soledad O’Brien to have a go at the entire GOP:
The racism in the GOP runs deep. https://t.co/Iq2dLcQW5D
— Soledad O'Brien (@soledadobrien) October 13, 2018
The MSM using Trump’s isolated quote as a reason to accuse him of racism had many who aren’t necessarily even supporters of the president rolling their eyes at the media. O’Brien also heard about it:
Soledad, really. I’m not usually one to defend Trump, but he was talking about Lee’s undisputed brilliance as a General as a set up for the scale of Grant’s accomplishment in defeating him.

The lack of basic historical knowledge displayed here would be shocking if it were not in keeping with her prior statements. Robert E Lee was a brilliant general is simply a fact. It is not racist to say that. It is proof of that someone knows nothing of history to say otherwise. https://t.co/g4PI593ecM

@soledadobrien proving she's just a political hack (as well as historically uninformed). Trump's quote was taken out of context. He called Lee a great general in context of praising Gen Grant (to amplify Grant's achievement of defeating Lee).
No wonder trust in MSM is low. https://t.co/OHTm5DnWhg— Theologineer (@Theologineer) October 13, 2018
We’ve come to expect nothing less from the “media.”
saying that lee was a great general is not racist…. don't be an idiot. https://t.co/4bIBWRWX1A
— cr (@propatriots) October 13, 2018
Historians will be shocked to learn that talking about Robert E. Lee makes them racist. https://t.co/Y4EVOA4G24

Hey, @soledadobrien, General Rommel was a great general too. That doesn’t make him a good person, just a great general. Ditto Napoleon. Emoting is a poor surrogate for cogent reasoning. https://t.co/XwO88XrI4n

You are ridiculous. Assume you only read the highlight. I’m getting very tired of your constant race baiting nonsense.

Here’s the full context of Trump’s comments:
Update:
O’Brien doubled down after criticism:
Come on Soledad…be better than the masses.
— G (@TCC_Grouchy) October 13, 2018
Literally, the GOP (as a party) has a huge issue with racism.
— Soledad O'Brien (@soledadobrien) October 13, 2018
Talking about the Confederacy (Lee and Grant) and asking Black people to honor him was just idiotic. Completely Separately: The party has a racism problem.
