According to Peter Strzok’s attorney, the agent who sent anti-Trump texts during the bureau’s investigation of allegations of Russia collusion has been fired:
BREAKING: Lawyer: FBI fires agent Peter Strzok, former Russia probe investigator, over anti-Trump texts.

NOW: Peter Strzok is fired from the FBI. He was moved to HR about a year ago, but still an employee of the agency.

JUST IN: FBI special agent Peter Strzok fired in what his attorney calls a "departure from typical Bureau practice."
"This decision should be deeply troubling to all Americans," his attorney says. pic.twitter.com/Pd8xXmhLDG

Full statement from Peter Strzok’s lawyer, who says the director of the FBI office that normally handles employee discipline had decided Strzok should face only a demotion and 60-day suspension—but was overruled by the FBI’s deputy director. pic.twitter.com/djAHeboYpC

The New York Times provides the obligatory “Republicans pounced” angle to Strzok’s texts:
Breaking News: The FBI fired Peter Strzok, whose anti-Trump text messages were seized on by the president to argue that the Russia inquiry was tainted https://t.co/Ltr7ElWyMy
— The New York Times (@nytimes) August 13, 2018
One thing is inevitable about this story:
Ain’t that the truth!
Make no Mistake about it. The firing of Peter Strzok came from the very top, President Donald J. Trump.
The OPR recommendation was simply a demotion and 60-day suspension
Trump is creating an atmosphere of political vengeance at the FBI
He think this will make him look good.

It is deeply troubling! No reason to fire him, he was already demoted. Guess someone got their knickers in a twist, because he didn't take their bullshit at the hearing. Fun fact: All the gop friendly agents are still working there.

shutting down free speech one person at a time.

This is messed up. Public employees should be free to have political opinions.

Hey @FBI you can't just fire a guy who has given his life to protecting this country because of a few texts messages discussing his personal feelings. Strzok is a hero for the work he's done. Which one of the assholes in charge decided this? Wray? Sessions? trump?? https://t.co/Oa0ozcF5rx

Peter Strzok was fired?
It's too bad we can't fire the president – Donald Trump is by far the biggest threat facing this nation, followed closely by a complicit @GOP #ImpeachTrump #Resist the #TrumpTraitor@realDonaldTrump @FBI @POTUS @PressSec @DevinNunes @RepMarkMeadows— Cameron L. Mitchell (@CameronLMitchel) August 13, 2018
Will Strzok now allow himself to become the next Resistance hero (and maybe write a book)?
@CNN @MSNBC are already in a bidding war for his next job. https://t.co/auYCu8UXZd

We would not be surprised.
