Twitter accident causes Memphis to commit recruiting violation

Memphis coach Josh Pastner has self-reported a secondary NCAA violation for tweeting the name of a highly touted high school basketball recruit.

According to reports, Pastner accidentally tweeting the words “Tony parker” from the basketball team’s official Twitter account. He claims he was simply putting Parker’s name in Twitter’s search engine and simply typed it in the wrong space.

Pastner himself tried to explain what happened in detail:

“My wife was yelling at me because I was on the phone too loud. I was waking [the couple’s infant daughter] up and waking my wife up because I had the TV on. She was complaining that I not only woke my daughter up, but I also woke the baby inside her up because she’s pregnant.”

Um…awkward!

But was it really a violation of NCAA rules?

We’d be surprised if the NCAA handed down any type of serious penalty for what seems to be an honest mistake.
