Marion Barber retires from NFL

Former Dallas Cowboys starting running back and most recently Chicago Bears’ backup Marion Barber has announced his retirement from the NFL. Not too long ago, Barber was considered one of the best RBs in the league but after a couple of bad years his stock has taken a serious hit.

Even if he didn’t retire he would have been the Bears third-string running back behind Matt Forte and Michael Bush.

With that said we wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to come out of retirement after a short vacation from the NFL drama.

From Chicago-Tribune:

Barber, 28, has decided to retire, the Bears announced Friday. He was due a base salary of $1.9 million for 2012 and had a cap figure of $2.25 million.

The reason behind Barber’s decision is unknown, although he dealt with a nagging calf injury all of last season. He finished the year with 422 yards on 114 carries with six touchdowns.

Barber, who once blossomed with the Dallas Cowboys, had a tough time adjusting with the Bears. First, he came to camp out of shape and dealt with injuries. Then Barber became the target of much criticism after two miscues — running out of bounds late in regulation and a fumble in overtime — proved costly in a shocking 13-10 loss at Denver.
