Hey, look, it's Aaron Rupar, who's apparently caught Secretary of War Pete Hegseth saying something damning.
Hegseth: "Today, at my direction, I'm establishing the Office of Religious Affairs. It will report straight to the top -- a direct line to the secretary ... as Psalm 33:12 extolls us, blessed is the nation in which God is the Lord" pic.twitter.com/YutqQAsqB3

We'd thought that Texas Senate candidate James Talarico had us convinced that it's a good thing to let the Scriptures dictate how you'd govern. It's funny how you don't hear the usual suspects scream about the separation of church and state when Talarico tells Jimmy Kimmel how Jesus would govern as a senator.
Some MAGA types would have you believe that the greatest threat to the separation of church and state isn't an Office of Religious Affairs in the military, but rather creeping Sharia law escorted in quietly by Muslim candidates like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani or Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. Fortunately, we have the clear eyes of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who assures us that, as a Jew, she endorses El-Sayed because his opponent, Mike Rogers, will follow Hegseth's lead and "confirm judges hellbent on destroying any separation of church and state." What Rogers has to do with Hegseth has to do with separation of church and state, we don't know.
When people ask me how I, as a Jew, can support @AbdulElSayed, it’s bc nothing is more dangerous to religious minorities in the U.S. than the creation of a state religion. Mike Rogers will confirm judges hellbent on destroying any separation of church & state. Abdul will not, https://t.co/oASHkFhM0G

Girl, you couldn’t go to your own party’s convention. You already have a state religion but they don’t want you in it.

You're delusional.

This won’t save you
— Max 📟 (@MaxNordau) September 30, 2026
You’re right, Dana, Muslims have never imposed a state religion or caused issues for Jews
— Robert Sterling (@RobertMSterling) October 1, 2026
You couldn't even attend the Michigan Democratic State Convention because of the violent threats Abdul El-Sayed's supporters were making against you. This is what you are shamefully supporting.
— Izengabe (@Izengabe_) September 30, 2026
This is a pretty wild pretzel to twist into just to justify supporting somebody who actually has spoken out on support of Sharia law.
— Matt Whitlock (@MattWhitlock) September 30, 2026
You talking about the guy who justified an attack on Jewish children in your own state? The Jews who believed the wolves wouldn’t eat them were still eaten by the wolves, Dana.

This is gross and pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourself.
This might be the dumbest take of the day.

We have had military chaplains the entire history of the United States.
(Even before: https://t.co/EBqyis9tTi)
State religion is a totally non-muslim political position.

Look at all the Christians and Jews in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan. Total religious freedom there.
This is the most ignorant and stupid post you could write. The only true state religions exist in Muslim majority countries. Try to find a church or synagogue anywhere in Iran or Saudi Arabia. Go ahead.

I hope Michigan Jews vote you the hell out just for this

I think your constituents at a Temple that very nearly became the scene of a mass murder of Jewish preschoolers might disagree about their being nothing more dangerous to them than Republican judges.
— David Bernstein (@ProfDBernstein) October 1, 2026
"Hurt people, hurt people."
This is probably the dumbest thing I’ve read all day. You deserve what you get, the Jewish community deserves much better.
— Mabel (@MabelisStable) October 1, 2026
Absolutely shameful.
Dems criticized conservatives who remained loyal to the GOP and also had a lot to say about bigotry and violence.
— Lion’s Den (@liondenden) October 1, 2026
These days, loyalty to the Democratic Party means acceptance of antisemitism, hatred, bullying, and socialist clichés. Good luck! pic.twitter.com/I1I63ch7pO
Abdul El-Sayed is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Chaplains (padres, priests, ministers, rabbis, and others) have been part of American military forces from beginning of the United States for 250 years. You supporting a Jihadist sympathizer has only to do with your radical partisanship. You don't give a shit about Michigan.
— Mech_Gui (@Mech_Gui) September 30, 2026
You do you. What a shameful decision. No matter what he says on the campaign trail, he has aligned himself with antisemites and you’re giving him a pass. Shame on you
— Nanette (@KittootseMAGA) September 30, 2026
The mental gymnastics of going from Hegseth's announcement to an endorsement of El-Sayed are incredible.
