This editor remains amazed by how hard Texas Senate candidate James Talarico is pushing Christianity with his campaign. When Jimmy Kimmel pulled the Stephen Colbert stunt of interviewing Talarico off-air so that he wouldn't have to give Ken Paxton equal time, the late-night host happily let Talarico preach his version of the Gospels. Why, if Jesus were to enter the Senate today, Talarico told Kimmel, "I think he would tell the Senators… 'I was a stranger and you deported me' … and then I think he would flip over those fancy desks."
It's odd for someone to run so hard on being a Christian when he says it's equally valid if your prophetic voice comes from Jesus, Mohammed, Toni Morrison, or Mr. Rogers.

Someone from Talarico's allegedly Presbyterian church was caught on video saying, “We don’t have a lot of people who are religious here.”
Still, Talarico is continuing to speak for Jesus on the fundraising trail:

So Talarico is going to govern as a senator as if he were Jesus — whom his pastor says there's no way to know if He existed. For someone who compares Jesus to Toni Morrison, Talarico sure is pushing the Jesus angle pretty hard.
