Colorado's Democratic Socialist House candidate, Melat Kiros, whose parents emigrated from Ethiopia when she was a child, is a Ph.D. student at the University of Colorado Denver’s School of Public Affairs. She has admitted she carries student debt, but not $250,000—that's the top bracket on her personal financial disclosure forms. She was fired from her job as a lawyer in 2023 for writing an open letter in support of October 7.
I've found that it's typical for a lot of these Democratic Socialists to be overeducated and underinformed. Nate Silver did some digging and found that the most Democratic voting group in America is people with post-graduate degrees but lower-to-middle incomes.

As someone said above, they took out hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans for a doctorate in gender studies and then think capitalism failed when they end up working at Starbucks.
