I don't live anywhere near California but I always get a kick out of hearing about the progress being made every year (decade) on the high-speed rail line being built there.
Voters approved $33 billion for the project all the way back in 2008. According to Construction Dive, the price has risen to $128 billion in 2023.
California has two high speed rail projects in the works!

This one between Southern and North CA!
Slow progress! #California #HighSpeedRail @CaltransHQ @SecretaryPete https://t.co/dByeUuTn3T
Currently chugging along toward its 2030 debut … although the last line of the piece says a recent progress report notes delays could push completion as far as 2033. But at least we will have done our part to save the planet.

Notice how they have to keep telling you that progress has been made?
State Sen. Scott Wiener is all aboard:

We need high speed rail in California & across the nation, connected to local public transportation systems.

Building out a nationwide high speed rail system will help us meet our climate goals — reducing the need for car & air travel — & help people get around more efficiently. pic.twitter.com/Kjsma4e54s
You're joking right?

California dropping the ball on its high speed rail set the state back decades
— KP (@SFSportsAndTech) September 5, 2023
Nope, we will invest in rural airports because high speed trains suck. Studies have shown this.

Government run trains are roughly double the cost of a comparable airplane flight and the Government STILL loses money.

We've been paying billions from our paychecks for decades now for this.

Money launderers.
It’s a decade behind schedule and tripled in budget with nothing to show for it. Double down we need more lol.

How’s the bullet train coming along?
— Craig Strachan (@CraigJStrachan) September 5, 2023
Ok. Great. Can you tell us what y’all did with the billions we’ve already paid for this supposed high speed rail? I think everyone would love it. If there were actually such a thing here in Ca. Quit lecturing us and go get our money, Weiner. We’ve already paid for this https://t.co/O4p3h2Ttp2

You probably don't remember but one of Sen. Barack Obama's campaign promises was a nationwide high-speed rail network. But as they say, "You didn't build that."
