Gov. Gavin Newsom is well on his way to making California a sanctuary state in every sense of the word. Are you an illegal alien with a criminal record? California will block ICE’s efforts to deport you. Are you a runaway minor who wants a sex-change operation? Come to California, and they won’t even contact your parents and let them know where you are. Need an abortion? California was weighing the idea of using tax money to fly you in and put you up in a hotel so you could get one. Heck, in response to a ban on abortion-inducing drugs, Newsom assured women that California has stocked up billions of them.
Now Newsom, whose full-time job seems to be trying to sink any chance of running against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2024, is interpreting Florida abortion law:
Florida will now require rape and incest victims to show “documents” to prove they got raped.
If they can’t provide them, the government will mandate they give birth to their rapist’s child. https://t.co/NUgzak59sP

People magazine … what a great source. Way better than the actual bill. It’s not like anybody lied about “Don’t Say Gay.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says this actually assists the rapist:
Forcing survivors to provide “documents” immediately after being raped to access abortion is policy that protects rapists.
Forcing victims to come forward in specific, traumatizing ways is a silencing tactic. That silence aids abuse. Holding healthcare hostage on top is depraved https://t.co/7CQaljdz6G

This is exactly backwards. The law requires those who seek an abortion after the deadline to report their rape. And the “immediately” part is just made up. Not only does this not protect rapists, but it encourages reporting. That’s how exemptions work everywhere https://t.co/SQj7TPCGuk

Here is the bill text. How do these people think rape exceptions work anywhere?
Unless you support no restrictions to abortions so a rape exception isn't necessary… pic.twitter.com/V06EU5Juy6

Let's say you disagree with the heartbeat limit, but instead, support one at 15 weeks. Or 20 weeks. Or 25 weeks.
If you support a rape exception beyond that, you would still need a similar provision. So either you support no meaningful limits or you support provisions like this.

Yeah, but rape victims often don’t report immediately for several very understandable reasons. The idea that if a person fails to report they have to bring a baby to term that was conceived during a rape is abhorrent.

Again, there is no immediate requirement. That is made up. There is a requirement you have some documentation before you use rape as a justification for abortion.

No rape exception? “No exceptions is extreme!“ Rape exception? “Documents!” I support this and several other exceptions. But the bad faith is bottomless.

Two points:
1) You are absolutely correct
2) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is an idiot— Orb (@InfiniteOrb) April 15, 2023
It protects rapists to want women to report their rape to the police?
— Ross Schumann (@RossSchumann) April 15, 2023
Immediately?
Where’s that stipulated?
— The Duke of Northumberland (@Bagehot99) April 15, 2023
"immediately"? What are you talking about?
— Erik (@winefishdawg) April 15, 2023
To be fair, I don't think anyone gets an abortion "immediately after being raped"…
— Russell (@theramblingfool) April 14, 2023
AOC, being from New York, is not accustomed to police reports being made when crimes are committed.
— PhotographicFloridian (@JackLinFLL) April 15, 2023
“Immediately after being raped” — where the hell did she get that? Not even Newsom said that.
